60.7 ns variation (Neutrino Reactions)

September 29, 2011 at 17:03 (Uncategorized)

mJ decided to write a semi-follow up to the track “LHC“, inspired by the recent potential discovery of Neutrinos exceeding the speed of light at CERN.

…Electron, muon, tau. Electron, muon, tau

Something so small

Reaction so widespread

Neutrality clouds over, what to make of it all

Have you started questioning your own head?

60.7 nanosecond variation

Relativity up in the air

Scientific recreation

By the nature of anomaly there.

New neutrino, old theory

Those minutiae causing chaos on the track

Speculation, interpretation

Conclusions, wrong or right

Compendious complexities, calls for re-imagination

If matter’s pushing past the speed of light.

And on banks of digitised colour and shape

There’s a lack of truth, a hole in the logic

That no matter how try, we just can’t escape.

New neutrino, old theory

Those minutiae causing chaos on the track

Emanating from the sun,

At a rate of 6.5 times 10 to the power 10 each second

And that’s what we know, the rest is unsung

Why can we take after neutrino, remain impartial ‘til the truth is reasoned.

New neutrino, old theory

Those minutiae causing chaos on the track

Electron, muon, tau. Electron, muon, tau…

An open letter to (small/venue) UK Music Promoters

May 27, 2011 at 13:06 (Uncategorized)

Hi there,

After we unfortunately had to cancel our scheduled gig with you [at the Bowery, New Oxford St, London] on 28th May 2011, I handed over communication to the other member of To The Moon in order that he could reschedule due to the fact that it was his unfortunate family situation that prevented us from playing on the 28th May as originally planned.

Post confirmation of 11th June, I have just had a slightly confused message from the other half (of To The Moon) as well as a package of tickets through my door for the upcoming show.
During the course of our original communications, it was not mentioned to me this obligation to capture our own audience for the night, nor was I presented with tickets to sell (which, you’d think would have been done since we would have in theory had so long to be able to promote the show – please note, we rescheduled from May 28th a month before this show was to take place).
I understand a potential process here – promoters ask bands to bring 15ish people to a gig, they don’t, so they make the bands sign a contract, the bands still don’t bring the fans. So the promoter starts making the bands invest money or make others do so in order that the promoter will earn his salary and the bar staff will have something to do whilst being paid.

We have been in a number of these kind of “bring 15 people to play/to” venues, empty and void of atmosphere, and we know that its depressing. But this kind of attitude isnt helping.
It occurs to me that if three or so bands are selling their own tickets for the night, what is the promoter doing? Surely they could just put on their own show if they wanted to play to their friends? Or have a party?

What happened to a promoter promoting the event (or even better, a venue getting itself a regular audience. It Is possible, even in London) – surely the cost of printing tickets could have been used in order to print promotional material for the night? To pay for some ad space on Google of Facebook? To employ someone to start a Facebook page and event page, and spread a buzz?
It strikes us as far more sensible to recoup costs from the bar, by doing a little bit of promotion, and by charging a fee that nobody would sniff at – say between £1 and £2, so that anyone turning up would be unlikely to leave again at the price. If you had 20 people at £2, that’s £200. 5 people at a fiver? That’s considerably less…

This is our opinion regarding event promotion etc. As a band, and musically speaking, we simply don’t want to play to a room full (more like half full) of our friends. In order to grow as a band we need to find our voice in front of strangers, and attract people to what we’re doing. Not hound our friends on Facebook and down the pub into paying £5 (and more on a trip into London for a lot of our friends, nevermind adding onto that alcohol costs) to see us play once or twice a month, depending on how many shows we have.
For us, its about playing in front of new people and building our fan base, as well as meeting new people and having a bit of fun. In theory, another band’s audience would be there if the system worked and every band sold their tickets and helped make up the audience, but in reality, bands, no matter how popular, or good, invariably just end up playing to their friends.

I know there’s some mediocre bands out there doing the rounds, that aren’t going to be a “draw” for audiences (just looking at it from your point of view rather than being bitchy about our comrades turning up on a Thursday night to play to four people and a dog at the Hope and Anchor), but for those that really have a chance of finding their feet, an audience, and some exposure, we don’t think any of this current situation helps. For the bands or the venues/promoters/sound engineers/ bar staff/ box office staff…

I just hope that we can come to some sort of compromise over this. We don’t wish to come across badly here, just stand up for what we believe in, which is essentially that lots of people get to see lots of different kinds of great music.
Otherwise, owing to the fact that we could never sell these tickets for June 11th, and have no intention of doing so, we will have to cancel our show with you.

Best regards,

To The Moon

Moon Merch…

October 1, 2009 at 14:00 (What We're Up to) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

From the Desk of To The Moon…

ttmsm

Comrades have been asking now for a long time about our future releases and where they are available…

Our E.P, a six-track release, is all but finished, but needs mastering and then pressing.

Of course, we have recorded more than this, but intended to bring out the first set of tracks before moving on to the full-length album. We also wanted to buy our own machinery to burn and package CDs professionally. This bit of kit would sit nicely among our arrays of lights and dials and banks of monitors at TTM HQ… Unfortunately, these things do not come for free -we spent a day looking for floating scrap in space to make the machine, but couldn’t find all the necessary wires :(

So, our mission progresses, and we’re still sending people PreviewHEAR CDs as way of thanks for helping us out online. We also offer mp3s of All of our experiments online for free download here.

Some people tho (us included!) like to have high-quality mp3s above 256kbps, packaged all nicely and delivered to their door by space mail.

Now you have that opportunity!

If you would like a mid-range E.P of TTM’s current exploits (including a previously unreleased track that isn’t even online) in a quite nice package, please email us here and we will talk you through the procedure for availing yourself of this ‘Audio Briefing Pack’.

CDs will be available to UK residents for just £2.50, and anywhere else in the world, you will pay £4.50 (we have found this covers all postage and packing and handling by martians at the spacemail depot)

Any Comrades that can prove theire residence is off-planet will receive the CD for free (as we can drop it in to you on one of our missions)…

Funds would be made payable to TTM through paypal, but we can talk you through the procedure when you email us.

*** UPDATE V.01.10.2.00 Beta Transmission ***

TTM Poster - Now available from the Shop at £2

Plus! Look out soon for more from TTM HQ – badges, masks, custom-designed, hand-made tee-shirts…

*Salutes* Looking forward to hearing from you, Comrades!

More Media Outings and Experiments

July 23, 2009 at 13:26 (What We're Up to) (, , , )

To The Moon are pretty lucky. We havent yet drowned in the Sea Of Tranquility, and we’ve always come out on top in various scraps with asteroids and meteors. I’m sure there’s a scientific equation for this phenomena, but we haven’t come up with it yet…

We just thought we’d keep you abreast of our recent progress in the field of Space Travel, Musical Pioneerism and spending a lotta time tweeting ;o)

  • Up and coming journalist Mary Stokes has blogged here about the connectivity of Social Media + Music. It even mentions us! Check it out here. *Salutes*
  • Also, the good people at Agnieszkas Shoes have blogged, about the nature of Twitter + Creativity:-

“Their music, like their approach to life, is unique. And their wonderful relationship with their fans is everything I love about Indie culture.”

- read our interview with them here.

  • We’ve been busy, too. Practising our Zero-Gravity walk down the South Bank in London, we recorded our location here – on Yayoi Kusama’s outdoor exhibition.

Finally, as always, you can add us on facebook here We’d love it if ya come say hi!

COMRADES – Transmission Update – Please update your Mission Statuses -

The winning phrase, as chosen by To The Moon Corps. (mJ+Den+You lot squared Σ= TTM Corps.) is

- all the possibilities of time & space, embroiled in a microscopic race… (from the TTM song, A Halo)

Please visit http://tinyurl.com/c47l7h and vote for the above transmission… that way we can all win this together! For the cause!

*Salutes*

————————————————————————————————————————————————

Dear Comrades,

You may have read in the media recently, or seen mJ tweet about the latest, worldwide mission to provide a message for the big-bods in white coats (with lotsa pens and scientific thingies in their breast-pockets) to beam from the Moon back to Earth.

The competition asked for a > 20 word message to be submitted, and TTM Corps. have risen to the challenge. Only, in the community spirit of the group, we have decided that the ToTheMoonites, our dear Comrades, should all submit the same message, in order that we win, for the good of the cause! *Salutes* Would be great to work together to get a collective message beamed from Space!!!

You can find out more information here: http://tinyurl.com/c47l7h

Here are some proposals, submitted by fans and friends, and by To The Moon, too.

- One day we will all go to the moon

- come to the moon, Comrades!

Also, some TTM lyrics which we could transmit:

- all the possibilities of time & space, embroiled in a microscopic race

- Has this little rock rolled over the hill?

- Moonshine, this is your day, this is mine, now

There will soon be a poll to determine the winning quote, and you may still make submissions to cometothemoon@live.co.uk, or via our twitter or wordpress pages (why not comment here for ease of transmission?)

Stay tuned, Comrades!

If Michael Jackson IS Dead…

June 26, 2009 at 01:01 (Uncategorized)

I sign on after a night out, and its really sobered me up to see this news that Michael Jackson, King of Pop, may have died, nevermind the potential that Jeff Goldblum is dead too! if Michael Jackson Is dead, it really upsets me that he didn’t get the chance to restore people’s faith in him whilst he was alive. He was a fantastically talented person. its worse if it takes his death to restore that faith, tho w/. the media itll b fake if it happens, because unedoubtedly, the media will try and gauge the feelings of the public and perhaps end up influencing them. Cartesian logic at its scariest…. This is something I feel strongly about, because if you ask yourself why you think what you do about Michael Jackson, its probably due to the media. They hailed him as the King Of Pop in the first place, but of course, do love when a celebrity, revered by millions, falls from grace. And they love to help. It sells! Look at Martin Bashir all those years ago. That still sticks in the head, and in the throat too. What thatman did was terrible, and it al, as ever, comes down to people’s failure to understand what dreives these sorts of people, the creative ones, the innocent and the fragile… They’re “ours” once they’re celbrities, and that’s daunting for the strongest of people, nevermind people like Jackson. This is a person with a weakness to them; he never got to grow up like many of us, and has spent many years now recreating his childhood. I’m sure that’s all he wanted to do, even if sub-consciously. But we can’t understand someone in themeida apotlight. Its notour fault, we only see what the media can portray, and boy will they try and give us as much as they can. It will be bought. But the life of a tortured creative type (you know the sort, Elvis to Amy Winehouse, they’re self-destruction is the movie that we can see, but can never understand) can go down a select number of paths…

Addendum – Well, its all been confirmed. RIP MJ

Catastrophes in Space

May 28, 2009 at 11:04 (Uncategorized)

This is why we wanted to go To The Moon. In space, no-one can hear you scream.

While Dennis suns himself and gorges on the best steak in the world (sobs a vegetarian of 8 years who desperately needs his tan topping up), mJ here is stuck orbitting Mission Control with little tears running down his space suit.

As you may’ve heard on twitter (www.twitter.com/to_the_moon) I (mJ) had a technology malfunction at 18.26 GMT on Tuesday. Primary boosters providing power to TTM HQ (Recording/Experimentation Base)’s computer failed leaving me with no computer, and deadlines looming.

A project for Glastonbury Radio (making a jingle) has had to be jettisoned, and recording an ambient piece for a friend’s art exhibition has had to be rescheduled indefinitely.

Tonight I will expedite a mission to Cheshunt, Earth (and home of the beast that is Tesco) in order to secure diagnosis for my hard drives. One of them has All the To The Moon music projects on, and if that is lost, all updates I have made to the tracks since Dennis’ departure, plus a new track I’m starting will disappear into the ether, as if sucked up by a big, annoying, and deeply unfair black hole.

Wish me luck, I’m going in…

*Salutes*
